ACKERMANN NAMED BUCHER'S AREA SALES MANAGER EUROPE

Bucher Hydraulics recently announced that Paul Ackermann has been namned its sales manager for Europe. He joined Bucher Hydraulics on August 1. An electrical engineering graduate, Ackermann has extensive international sales and marketing experience. Ackermann is taking over responsibility for the European regions previously supported by André Marrer, who has been promoted to deputy general marketing and sales manager and is now leading the company's Internal Sales department as head of Sales Administration. PRASARANA PLANS LRT STATION IMPROVEMENTS

Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd. (Prasarana) has announced plans to upgrade three light-rail-transit (LRT) stations in Malaysia, plus the construction of a six-level parking facility at the Gombak LRT station. The Masjid Jamek, Hang Tuah and Titiwangsa stations will receive accessibility improvements, including elevators, chairlifts, escalators and ramps. The entire project is budgeted for MYR51 million (US$16.2 million). Construction began earlier this year and is expected to be completed next year.

CARLO GAVAZZI PLANTS CERTIFIED

All of Carlo Gavazzi's manufacturing facilities have recently been certified to ISO 14001:2004, a global standard for establishing and maintaining an effective environmental management system (EMS). The certified facilities include those in Italy, Lithuania, Malta and Asia. As the certification requires a commitment to continuous improvement within the EMS framework, all of the factories within Carlo Gavazzi's Automation Components Business Unit are implementing measurable programs to manage and reduce their impact on the environment.

SOUTH AFRICAN AIRPORT ESCALATOR INCIDENTS

According to The Mercury, three escalator incidents have recently occurred in a Durban, South Africa, airport. In one, a two-year-old boy’s finger was injured and described as “almost severed” after he slipped near the end of the unit’s travel. This incident is under investigation.
